Unique Granite & Marble has been building custom granite and quartz countertops for nearly a decade; however, the roots of our business run far deeper.Rick Thomas founded Rick Thomas Custom Building in 1991 and quickly earned a reputation as the premier home building company in the Owensboro area. Our company did all of our own concrete, framing, tile, trim work, and even built our own custom cabinets for each one of our homes.We finished our homes on time and to high customer satisfaction due largely to our tremendous employees. We employed some of the most talented craftsmen in the region, many of whom still work for Unique Granite to this day.As granite and marble became more affordable in the late 1990s and early 2000s we began to install stone in many of our homes. As homebuilders, we would cringe when customers wanted to put granite in their home – only because there was no local source for granite. Many of our customers would have to travel two to three hours to select their stone and find a fabricator. The granite would often arrive on the job site weeks late and with subpar results.In early 2002 we were completing an extensive home remodel and everything looked great. – except for the limestone countertop which arrived incorrectly sized. The homeowner didn’t have time to wait for new stone to be fabricated. We wanted to help our customer so we ordered tools to successfully fix the countertop. Having made a hefty investment in granite tools, we decided to fabricate the granite for the next home. Soon, we were fabricating stone for other area builders and cabinet makers. Before long, we were ready to make the move from custom home building to full-time custom-countertop fabrication. Unique Granite & Marble formed in 2004 with the help of family, friends, and coworkers. The company has risen from humble beginnings to become the area’s largest and best fabricator of custom stone countertops. We offer a vast selection of stone with a wide variety of colors and patterns formed by nature. Unique Granite & Marble features the largest fabricator-owned slab yard in the region. At more than 1400 slabs and counting, we are sure to have the right stone to match even the most particular of tastes. As a company we have embraced technology to deliver outstanding quality. But most of all, we have been successful because of our commitment to serving our customers – it’s what got us into this business, after all.
